So the other night was the Annual Met Gala here in New York City--one of fashion's most important nights. The theme was punk, so there were a lot of...interesting...get-ups, but having more fun and leeway with fashion is what the night is about so [mostly] all is forgiven. There were a lot of good things happenin' though so I thought I'd highlight those.
If you're going to have a mohawk, a gold jeweled piece is the way to go.
But by far, the most obvious moment being had at the 2013 Met Gala was earrings. Something I cannot partake in because I'm allergic to earrings (even hypoallergenic so don't suggest it). I was cursed with every bad trait and allergy my parents had to offer. But lets take a look at the best earwear of the night.
Diane Kruger's ear sprouted wings
X-Men-inspired hair aside, Nicole's ears are spiked out
All hail Lauren Santo Domingo
Brooklyn Decker, I mean...the hair thing? Unexpected and so cool. Seriously?
SERIOUSLY, I NEED THAT HIDDEN SPIKED HEADBAND
Who knew diamonds could be punky?
I really want to hate Blake Lively, but everything she wears is just perfect. LOOK AT THOSE EARRINGS.
Take a cue from these ladies, pull back your hair, and let your ears have a shining moment. Here are some different ways to get the look no matter what your pricepoint is.
1. Punky-Princess style on the cheap. These earrings from topshop.com are only $18
2. These DANNIJO earrings look like little turquoise and green mohawks on your ear, but not in the "Gross, you have hairy mohawks on your ears" because they're, ya know, jewels. They're $320, but they're like the puppy dog eyes of earrings--you just CAN'T say no. YOU CAN'T.
3. One of my favorite things is ear cuffs and this one from asos.com is no exception to the rule. Only $58! Get them now and let me live vicariously through you, I beg of you.
Take a look around and find something that fits your price range and get on this rad trend.
So did you all have any favorite looks and least favorite wacky ensembles from that night?
For several years now, I have been obsessed with jewelry brand DANNIJO. When I say obsessed, I mean having dreams about wearing the necklaces because I simply spend too much time checking their website, drooling over the magnificent necklaces.
If you've never heard of them then you need to get yourself acquainted with their brand. Conveniently, you can do that straight from their website, which is how I learned about them before I moved to New York City from Florida. I only have one ring, bracelet, and necklace from them because, well, I'm a broke college student. I've unfortunately missed all the sample sales because every time they have one here in the city, I'm at home either for winter or summer break. But that yearning and torture will build character, right? That's what I'm telling myself to help stifle the tears.
Anywho...DANNIJO is the product of two sisters, Danielle and Jodi Snyder, from Jacksonville, Florida (what up). They sell on their website and places like Bergdorf Goodman, Shopbop, Holt Renfrew, Lane Crawford and Harvey Nichols.
Here some of the pieces that I would give my future first born child to own right now:
The Costella Necklace, $945
The Sienna Necklace, $995
The Whitely Necklace, $795
Sometimes a little heavy metal, some bohemian flare, sometimes uptown princess, always a lot of cool. There's not one thing I dislike, which is rare because I'm very picky. Each piece is unique, but versatile enough to wear on a daily basis (because if you don't like to wear sparkly things around your neck while you do your grocery shopping at 10pm then I don't know if we can be friends).
The great thing about them is that even if you don't have any of the brick-and-mortar store to visit and actually see the jewelry in person, is that they do a great job of having accurate pictures that really show how beautifully and well-crafted each piece is. I went to their pop-up shop in December and was not disappointed with anything I saw. They have lookbooks with the jewelry on models, and have a slew of famous friends to advertise their jewelry beautifully. Blogger Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller, actress Sophia Bush, and models Coco Rocha, Hilary Rhoda, and Brooklyn Decker all sport DANNIJO around town. I'm currently in the process of finding out their exact addresses and where they hide their spare key outside.
"I have this necklace and you don't! Thumbs up to that!" Bitch. (JK I love you, Leandra)
Anyway, check out a video they made for the upcoming FW13 season that features the jewelry that only they can make so perfectly:
And follow them on Instagram @dannijo. They have a strong Instagram presence and following so they can can post daily pictures of the jewelry to remind you that you're not good enough to own many pieces yet.
